I nearly forgot it was Monday and time to make my weekly post!
So last week I took a break from working on Chase’s suit – we’d gotten the fabric ordered and it was scheduled to arrive Wednesday, so I took that time to do something fun before diving back into the horror that is men’s tailoring.
First set was some Avengers ears!
Originally I was going to do a Captain Marvel inspired bow so she’d be “represented” here. But I got the bow made and didn’t like it on the ears. So I went back and made the bow out of the same ear fabric. Got them done and then realized I put the bow on what was supposed to be the back.
These guys were supposed to be on the front:
So I took them apart – I also decided to switch out the headband I had them on. Got them onto another band and the bow turned around.
Then since I had made the Captain Marvel bow and not used it, I made some ears to match.
Yaaaaaaaas
Although the yellow stripe on the bow keeps flipping up oddly and is driving me crazy. I tried to fix it by sewing it down and it looked funny. Don’t wanna take the chance of messing it up with glue so I’m leaving it.
Redone Avengers ears with a different ribbon on the bow:
NASA ears!
I had a yard of this NASA mission fabric, had nothing planned for it, so why not some ears. I used some black glitter ribbon for the bow and layered some black sequinned trim on top of it – the sequin trim was super pretty with some purples and blues in the blacks.
Porg Ears!
Of course I had to use this porg fabric. Went with an R2D2 inspired bow. I had this BB8 pin from a disney trip a couple of years ago and put it in the center.
Leia ears!
Some leftover white fabric and that sparkley netting from my medieval Leia for the ears, with this really cool silver metal trim I bought for the bow. This pin was a junker that we got in a bag of Kevin’s pins and I thought it went pretty well with the theme.
Tightrope Walker ears!
Leftover purple velveteen, white satin, lace trim and sleeve fabric from my costume – I painted the flowers on to the satin and added the Tightrope Walker pin Ash got me for Christmas. Still need to trim off the excess of the lace from the headband.
After I finished these I discovered Disney already has Tightrope Walker ears you can buy. But oh well. Mine were cheaper. LOL.
Padme ears!
Finally my Padme lake ears. Had some scrap silk chiffon I dyed and some white satin binding. Dye didn’t take to the binding quite as well the fabric (silk vs polyester), but I like that the bow is a lighter tone than the ears.
The whole collection:
There were 2 more I was considering making but I’m not sure I’m going to get to them — and honestly at this point I don’t need anymore. I have 8 ears plus my Stitch hat and we’re only there 7 days. I mean it’ll be easy enough to switch them out mid-day but still. It’s a lot of ears.
Was considering a Dolores themed pair since I have Dolores fabric and stuff leftover. And another Padme set. But neither are necessary.
And I got this gorgeous Megan Lara Leia shirt last week:
Been wanting something with her Leia art on it for a while and thought a shirt for the Disney trip would be fun.
Thursday night we went to see Captain Marvel!
IT WAS PERFECT
I LOVED IT
I WANT TO SEE IT A MILLION MORE TIMES
Like it was literally what I, as a female superhero fan going back decades now, haved wanted in a superhero movie for ages. Just a badass woman in a cool and not overly sexy suit blowing shit up. That’s the best.
So like I said Chase’s fabric came in. I prewashed it and then got to iron all gazillion yards of it.
Friday night he helped me get all the pieces cut and I got all the interfacing ironed in.
Saturday we drove up to Nashville for Derek’s birthday! It was fun! Sunday we drove home and went straight to my parents house to pick up Skye – she stayed overnight with us while my parents were out of town.
I wanted to get a lot of sewing done yesterday when we got home. I did not. I was exhausted and feeling like crap so I ended up just transferring the dart and pocket guides onto the front pieces and then laying on the couch the rest of the night. Watched part of Aquaman and part of the first Avengers.
Skye napped on the couch with me.
She slept in the bedroom with us (in her kennel) and got us up twice in the night to go out. But she really had to go both times and then went right back to sleep when we got back in.
TONIGHT — SUIT!
I’m hoping I can fully knock out the pockets on the front pieces tonight. This will be my third time assembling this jacket so I hope it goes fast. Fingers crossed.
Padme art!
I got 2 this week!
If you recall last week I talked using a headpiece concept combined with the nightgown concept and it didn’t work. So I’d cut the head off and pasted it onto a new file to do a completely separate outfit for the elaborate headpiece. Got that one finished now:
The dress is a little simple but I wanted the headpiece to be the star of the outfit. Gave it a little bit of a gradient and in the back I imagined a sort of “cape” piece attached to the gathered Admiral Holdo-esque collar, which would look like a sack-back gown. So I guess the back is slightly more interesting in my head, I guess I should have drawn that instead of the front LOL
Next up was a TPM era concept that was only drawn from the bust-line up. So I made up the rest of it. I wanted to do something a little more sporty and casual looking and I imagine this is a pre-TPM, pre-queen Padme going to hang out with her friends.
Next weekend is MidSouthcon! With everything I have to finish for the Disney trip we don’t plan to be there that long, a couple of hours on Saturday. Going easy – ANH Leia for me and ANH Luke for Kevin.
